The Monochrome Set make a return visit to The Thunderbolt on Saturday 25th April to promote their new album “Spaces Everywhere”

The band feature original members Bid (Vocals) and Andy Warren (Bass) with Steve Brummell pounding the drums and the return of John Paul Moran on keyboards. Formed in 1976 as The B-Sides with Adam Ant as an original member, the band soon became The Monochrome Set and were heavily influential in the “post punk” scene that evolved after the initial scorched earth of punk.

The band’s early releases were on the legendary Rough trade label before signing with Virgin off shoot Din Disc and have since had a long association with Cherry Red Records. They have been prolific in their recorded output over the years with an album count now into double figures.

The band split in 1985 although they recorded and played live sporadically over the years before reforming as a going concern in 2010 although any momentum was soon halted when Bid suffered a SAH (a form of a Stroke). Thankfully he recovered and a new album was released in 2012 entitled Platinum Coils. The band have continued to tour all over Europe, the USA and Japan and released the follow up Super Plastic City in 2013. They are now touring to promote this year’s new album Spaces Everywhere on the Tapete record label.

SHORT STORIES: The Short Stories came out of a chance meeting between two old school friends immersed in music and whose paths had not crossed for twenty years. A trilogy of albums was recorded by the two Bristolians between 2008-2010 - Short Stories for Long Nights, The Night Is On Fire and Small Mercies. All three were released through the International Lo-Fi Underground label and garnered praise from far and wide, as well as new friends like Vic Godard, The Bitter Springs and The Blue Orchids (Martin Bramah guests on the second album), all of whom invited the band to play with them.
The band expanded to a five piece in 2010/11 playing more gigs, and spent a long time writing and recording a fourth album, Send My Love To Everyone, which was released in 2013 on Breaking Down Recordings, with the first single from the CD, Angry Young Man, garnering Radio One airplay, and the second, Are You Listening Now? gaining widespread acclaim.
